West Luther Valley church was sponsored and built in 1871 as an outreach of Luther Valley Lutheran Church, Beloit, WI, to members in the western area of the settlement. Luther Valley and West Luther Valley were a two point parish served by the same pastor until the early 1960's. At that time the East Luther Valley Church became so large that the pastor was unable to serve both parishes. West Luther Valley then became its own congregation and changed its name to Bethany. Bethany is now an independent Lutheran congregation.

In 2003, the old church, built in 1871, burned to the ground as a result of a lightning strike. The members of the church worked along side the contractor, and by the spring of 2005 had built a completely new, accessible, 21st century sanctuary.

Today the church is once again maintaining it s independent status with approximately 175 members. Bethany continues in its Lutheran heritage as it proclaims God's love for all people through Jesus Christ.

Brodhead United Methodist Church has been part of Brodhead for generations. The denomination became the United Methodist Church in 1968 when the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) and the Methodist Church merged thus creating the United Methodist Church. The new name was a combination of both groups. The EUB building was fairly new so it became the building of choice. Along with the addition of the education wing in 1991 the church has been able to provide space for community group activities. An elevator can be accessed from our new covered ramp as well as the 1st Center Ave entrance allowing us to be handicap accessible. We strive to have Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors.

It all happened in the year 1856 – Brodhead became a village and the Congregational Society of Brodhead was formed. The exact date of that first meeting was July 21, 1856. This was the first religious meeting held in the village. Meetings were held in the homes of members, in the first hotel in Brodhead, in a store building on the south side, and in the Academy which later became the first Catholic Church.

In 1998, thirteen and one half acres of land was purchased. After receiving a substantial gift from an estate, the construction of a new totally handicapped accessible building began in the spring of 2001. After worshipping in the original building from 1856 to 2002, our congregation moved to its new home. The Dedication Service was held on April 7, 2002. Our church is surrounded by replanted natural prairie that is home to a large variety of small animals and birds and is open to the public for their enjoyment. Park in our lot near the old bell.

Our church is fortunate to have many musical members who generously share their time and talents. The Women’s Guild and Men’s Fellowship strive to raise funds for the church and its youth for camps and other activities, and enjoy many hours of laughter and uplifting fellowship. Our church leaders have been instrumental in forming several community projects including White Gift Food Pantry, Community Clothes Closet, and the Community Gardens.

Our congregation has established a tradition of friendliness and openness to a wide variety of people. In our home you should know the joy that awaits you as part of God’s fellowship here on earth.
